A mourning brooch for Frodo's humans...

In 2014 we lost our Airedale terrier, Frodo to lymphoma. He had just turned 11 years old.
Frodo was my protector, the guardian of my spirit. He reminded me how to play, to breathe and take time to sleep (belly exposed and legs in the air),  in the afternoon sun.

Thief of wallets and of hearts is a collection of poems, small objects and personal adornments that explore memories of Frodo, his playfulness and his preciousness to us.

Memory is a precious but fragile object that we try to hold onto, but that inevitably disintegrates, shifts and changes with every recollection and reconstruction in the present.

Metals; fabric; paper; beeswax; kept and collected objects that remind me of Frodo - his old dog collar, the squeaker from an old dog toy, images, tufts of his fur, and his paw prints taken on the day that he died -  these materials emphasise the push and pull of memory: transience and fixity; preciousness and loss.

Objects become anchors for memory and identity, giving both tangible, albeit it temporary, expression.  The objects in this collection, in the form of jewellery and adornment offer personal expression of our stories and a way to hold onto our precious connection with Frodo.

Sometimes clarity comes at 2.30am...

Sometimes clarity and creativity comes at 2.30am.

Woke up and wrote this poem to go with a piece, a veil, that I am working on for Flowers For Oberon exhibition.

A prayer, a vow to the fairy king ( it's a nice day to start again)

Golden eyes you lay me bare
With one soft touch on my hand
Purr song gentle and hypnotic,
Lulls my weak mortal heart.
Reverently I stroke your mane,
My King, my lord...

...Then I must be thy lady...

Once, another came to our bed,
And , enamoured by an ass and delusions of a truer love,
I pushed you aside
Cat... I called you cat...

...Am not I thy Lord?...

A shrieking moment of betrayal,
Tarry, rash, wanton...flashes of fur and teeth.

...oh Oberon what visions I have had...

There's a scar on my arm reminding me to whom my love is vowed...forever...
and ever after I pray for forgiveness...
My King , my lord, my love.

    About this blog

many roads...                           ...on the journey words follow me,                              push me forward,                  and sometimes, overtake me.

This is my attempt to map them, And navigate my way through meaning.

This blog is about my creative process, ideas and inspiration for new work, projects that I am working on, cool things that other artists are doing, ideas about memory and identity that I am trying to make sense of. Stop by to share the creative journey and say hi!
